Can anyone wear waistbeads?

Short answer: YES!

We believe waistbeads can help people of any gender connect with the Divine Feminine aspect of God, our Creator. (We say “God” because we mainly speak English, but we know that God goes by many names. (^_^)

We were trained in the Ghanaian tradition by our teacher Laura Golda.  In Ghana, waistbeads are worn by women of all ages and girls starting around age 13 (usually after they have had their first period). They would only be seen by one’s spouse, or one’s close female family and friends.

Traditionally in Ghana, waistbeads were worn for several reasons:
  • To mark a spiritual rite of passage when a girl has her first period
  • To help shape a young woman’s body into the "desired" feminine form
  • To assist with weight management – to maintain or to track weight loss or gain
  • To use as a physical representation of a prayer
  • As a physical reminder of the beauty and Divine Feminine power that all women carry (whether they create life in the form of children or not)

Today, many women (inside and outside of Africa) are breaking with the traditional practices. Many people wearing waistbeads (and apparently many people making them) are doing so only for cosmetic purposes.

However, here at The Queens' Peace our waistbeads are made for intentional healing, intentionally showing love to yourself, and intentionally connecting with the love & beauty of the Creator and Their creation. Yes, they are gorgeous, but so are you, and we know that God did not place you here simply to look good. Our waistbeads are intentional & their beauty is just a plus.

The only “groups” we hesitate to encourage to wear waistbeads are young people who have not yet entered puberty and pregnant women. This is because of how rapidly their bodies are growing and changing, and we are concerned about restricting the natural progress of that growth. If you are considering buying waistbeads for someone in either of these categories, please discuss it with them or their parents first.

We hope you feel free to send us any questions, concerns, or corrections you may have. We look forward to reading them!
